Keep you posted as I find out more.

I’d never really though of combing VirtualPC and ReadyBoost. Apparently there is a noticeable performance increase — so it appeals to me in a big way. On a side note, Jeff Attwood has some great info on ReadyBoost.
Anyway, back to ReadyBoost and VirtualPC, check out more in Chris’s post “Vista ReadyBoost“, a snippet is below:
Went and bought a nice and fast 4 GB SD card (150x, 22.5Mb Read, 12.5Mb Write) and put it in my laptop.
After running with this turned on for a couple of hours now I can honestly say my laptop is much snappier when running a hefty VPC.
… but for running VPCs it seems really good. The card was less than $80 USD … a pretty cheap price to pay IMHO for an easier life running VPCs (my bread and butter).

In Media Centre circles everyone knows about WAF Wife Acceptance Factor. But when does WAF become HAF? — and no I’m not referring to “the Hoff“
I mean HAF, Husband Acceptance Factor. You see my wife Liz loves the Media Centre, the Music/Video/TV/Everything. So when I asked what she wanted for her Birthday, Liz replied, “a XBox 360 so I can use the media centre in the other room”. ….at this point my draw has dropped, and I find myself wondering “who is this gorgeous woman, and what has she done with my wife?!“. I should have known, really I should. :)
So this brings me to now, covertly climbing under the house, drilling another hole in the floor to run Ethernet cable to the second TV.
So, when does WAF become HAF?

I just a really cool post over on the Vista Blog. They’ve posted some stats on Vista Testers, and where they are in the world.
The cool part is that 50% of beta testers are OUTSIDE the US with maps dedicated to Australia and New Zealand. There are a few pins missing from PNG and Fiji (I have a few mates working there who are running Vista).
Anyway, check out the full post over at Windows Vista Team, Where in the World Are Our Beta Testers?

Yeah I know, this is doing the rounds. So now it’s Friday I’ll blog it, cause it’s cool and everyone needs a smile.
Moixa Energy have built a NiMH AA battery that you can charge from any USB port. Although they are only available in the UK, I’m sure in this age of internet you can source them somehow. :)

The .NET Show and discusses “Longhorn” and it’s virtualization capabilities. The .NET show covers some other Longhorn technologies (such as Terminal Services gateway) and is mostly developer focused and a bit ‘canned’. :)
But to hear the Virtualization goodness, check out the video and jump to 16:45.

Caught up with Greg from Platespin earlier in the week and had a general chat about their products PowerConvert and PowerRecon- they work with offerings from both VMware and Microsoft (not tested Parallels yet). I like their stuff, and looking forward new versions in features in the pipleline.
On a side not Platespin gets a mention on the blog “Documenting a virtualization project” where Martin is documenting his experiences on a ESX 2.5 to 3.0 migration (a really great idea). The cool part is that Martin had a few roadbumps and the Platespin CEO, Stephen Pollack, makes a post asking how he can help.
..nice.

All round good guy, Rodney Buike has posted a reminder: As of October 1st (14 days away) Windows Datacenter will now be available for purchase through Volume License channels. There is more more in his post ‘Datacenter and Virtualization Licensing Changes‘ and a snippet from the Windows Datacenter web site is below:
Unlimited virtualization rights: Starting October 1, 2006, new servers licensed with Windows Server Datacenter Edition (and previous licenses with new version rights) will have license rights to run an unlimited number of virtualized Windows Server instances. By simply licensing the server’s processors with Windows Server Datacenter Edition, customers will be able to run Windows Server Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, Datacenter Edition or a mix of the three editions without having to track the number of virtual machines or pay for additional Windows Server licenses.
This [personally] opens up so many questions, for instance how much? As I find out more I’ll post back :)
